Julien Ayer (b. 1980, Fribourg) is a Swiss industrial and product designer. A graduate of ECAL, he began his career between teaching and applied research, sharing his knowledge of 3D modeling and computer-generated imagery while exploring the relationship between technology and form. He later spent 15 years within a design office, including two as co-director, and collaborated for one year with Jörg Boner Productdesign.

In 2025, he founded Julien Ayer Studio in Fribourg. The studio was created to establish a balance between commissioned industrial projects and independent work. It supports companies, startups and creators in developing products that are both technically precise and thoughtfully conceived, from early intuition to industrial realization.

This dual position shapes his practice. In collaborative contexts, the designer steps back and the work serves a collective identity. In personal projects, he engages more directly, assuming responsibility for concept, development and communication, often working closely with artisans and local production networks.

His work is guided by a search for clarity and coherence. He is attentive to proportions, material logic and the subtle presence of objects in everyday life. Technical rigor and aesthetic sensibility are not opposing forces, but complementary dimensions of the same intention.

Through his projects, Julien seeks to create products that are relevant, durable and quietly enduring.
